Overview

Visit the spectacular gardens of Clandon Park Join the National Trusts to save this stunning property after the fire of 2015. Luckily, the garden stays unscathed by the fire giving you the chance to walk up and down this lush hillside area (enjoy the view down to the shimmering lake) featuring a sunken Dutch garden full of brightly coloured flowers, a small parterre greenhouse, a herbaceous border, a grotto, and a century-old Maori meeting house–a jewel in Clandon's crown, brought back from New Zealand. Top tip: go when the weather warms up and you'll be welcomed by a sea of daffodils that burst in the spring.

What can guests enjoy at Clandon Park?

Sharing their success after the fire has been very important to us. Between April to November, you can visit Clandon Park. Follow the two purpose-built footpaths to the ground floor, including the magnificent Marble Hall, and the basement rooms, giving you a unique view of the impressive structure. There is also a small four-acre garden. Visiting offers a rare opportunity to see this spectacular contemporary ruin in its post-fire condition before access becomes more restricted.

Other Information

Clandon Park was designed by the Venetian architect Lord Onslow in the 1720s. As one of the most comprehensive examples of the Palladian mansion in the world, it featured original stucco ceilings and marble fireplaces, the most notable of which were in the Marble Hall. The house was redesigned in the 1960s to house a collection of 18th-century furniture and porcelain purchased by the collector, Hannah Gubbay.

A fire broke out in April 2015. All was evacuated from the home, but the fire caused considerable damage, essentially leaving the house with a shell.
