Overview

Explore the Fascinating Lyveden New Bield The National Trust has taken the Lyveden New Bield, a building started but never finished by Sir Thomas Tresham to symbolise his Catholicism in the 1500s and early 1600s, and turned it into a lovely place to visit. Sitting in the middle of rural Northamptonshire, the very fact that Lyveden has survived since the Elizabethan age seems remarkable and these days visitors can discover the mysterious garden lodge and poke around the Elizabethan garden with its spiral mounts, canals and terracing. Take a stroll through the orchard stuffed with old varieties of apples and pears or set off along the Lyveden Way, a pretty circular path through villages, meadows and villages. This site is open every weekend until 4pm and has an excellent tea room once you have finished your explorations.
