Overview

Ham House is one of the great Stuart houses situated only 10 miles from central London on the rural banks of the river Thames. Explore the rich history of this rare and atmospheric Stuart house with examples of 17th-century life, treasures and architecture with beautiful formal gardens surrounding the house.

Ham House and Garden is situated on the banks of the River Thames, in Surrey, between the historic towns of Richmond and Kingston.

What style of garden is Ham House & Garden?

Visitors can enjoy a variety of different garden styles at Ham House and Garden. From the formal planting of the Cherry Garden to the wild woodland feel of the Wilderness and the productive, working Kitchen Garden which helps supply the cafe. New for 2019, the grass 'plats' on the south side of the house are being transformed, with 500,000 bulbs springing into life between February and April, whilst new wildflower parterres have been planted to create a summer meadow from June onwards.

What can guests enjoy at Ham House & Garden?

The gardens are perfect for a relaxing stroll and there is something to see across all seasons. Across the school holidays, there are a range of family activities to enjoy ranging from trails to garden games. The 17th-century house is open all year round, with short tours running over the winter and the Duke and Duchess of Lauderdale's private apartments open during the spring, summer and autumn. After a day exploring all Ham House and Garden has to offer, enjoy some light shopping in the Gift Shop, or refreshments in the Orangery Cafe.
