Overview

Orchard Farm is idyllically situated in the Peak District village of Parwich. The owners have converted two of the redundant farm buildings - Tom's and Douglas's Barns - into two romantic holiday cottages for two. Each luxury cottage has its own character but shares a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Guests are encouraged to treat the self-catering lodgings like their own homes, being welcome to bring dogs to Tom's Barn and enjoying features that include a galleried bedroom, a whirlpool bath and a log burner. Though both Tom's and Douglas's Barn come with fully-equipped kitchens suitable for all modern dining methods, there are also a number of excellent pubs and restaurants to enjoy locally in an area that is great for walking and cycling enthusiasts.

What is the capacity for Tom's Barn & Douglas's Barn?

Tom's Barn is a dog friendly, self-catering, luxury vacation cottage for two people. If you want to have a calm, quiet and luxury five-star stay, Tom's Barn is probably your dream romantic retreat in a beautiful rural setting where your dog is welcomed too.

Douglas's Barn is the former cowshed, now five-star romantic two-person holiday cottage. The odd angles and weird nooks and crannies add to the charm of your totally relaxing, peaceful holiday accommodation.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Ashbourne area?

The Peak District is a hiking and cycling paradise. In Tom's and Douglas' Barns, you can take innumerable walks from the doorstep. Your hosts have a few bicycles that you can borrow if you're happy with them along with cycle hats. Sailing, windsurfing are available at Carsington, which is only five or so miles from the barns. In Derbyshire and in the Peak district you are spoilt for choice of country houses, there are six National Trust houses and a couple of smaller still privately owned homes as well as the favourite, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. It is hardly any surprise that in this already beautiful area there are many beautiful gardens, some belonging to Chatsworth and Haddon, but a large number belonging to ordinary folk too.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

The majority of the nearby towns have a weekly market and farmers' markets. The Bakewell Farmers' Market on the final Saturday of the month is probably most known locally. Many of the shops in the area, including the Chatsworth Farm Shop, are specialists. The Cheddar gorge in Ashbourne (proud to be a 'fair trade' town) has lovely cheese, pates and cold meats, cakes and bread.  Bramhall's is another delicatessen opposite the market place, with a delightful range of exotic cheeses, bread, quiches, pies, and even chocolates. There are many great pubs and restaurants in the area (many of them stock real ales). Chefs and owners move on from time to time but your hosts try to keep up with the changing reputations and you will find a continually updated list of places of recommended places in your barn when you arrive. The village is home to its own dog-friendly pub, The Sycamore, which has a good varied menu.
