Overview

'The Ridges' originally built in the 1700s as a gentleman's residence, became the home of wealthy mill owners in the 1800's. It stayed within the same family passing down from father to son until approximately early 1950 when the present owner's family bought it. It is surrounded by lovely extensive gardens and woodlands and is situated just below the West Pennine hills. Traditional bedrooms are upstairs, with flowery fabrics and patterned walls. Breakfast is served in a cosy room, overlooking the garden, with a log-burner for chilly mornings. Situated in easy reach of Rivington, and Anglezark's country park and reservoirs, ideal for walking and cyclist. Also a good stop-over on your way to the Lake District, or Scotland.

What makes a stay at The Ridges unique?

A stay in Lancashire would not be complete without a visit to The Ridges Gardens.  Situated at the start of West Pennine Moors in a glorious region known locally as the Lancashire Lake District and near to Rivington Pike, once the home of the soap magnate Lord Leverhulme. Since 1993, The Ridges' old 3.5-acre gardens have been slowly restored with at least one new feature per year added. They have a cottage style, walled orchard with a large grassy border, where there are many pretty plants, including perennials that are of special interest to flower arrangers.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at The Ridges?

There are two double bedrooms with en suite showers plus one twin and one single room which share a private bathroom. All rooms are equipped with TV, Radio Alarm, Hair Dryer and Tea and Coffee making facilities.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Chorley area?

The Ridges is conveniently located close to the M6 and M61 motorways near Chorley in Lancashire overlooking the West Pennine Hills. It is nearby Rivington Country Park with its Saxon Barns and Chinese Gardens, known locally as the Lancashire Lake District, thanks to the many large reservoirs, making it the ideal base for wild life enthusiasts and keen walkers.
