The iconic 18 hole links golf course has been evolved over time, mother nature being the main architect. It is par 72 that stretches over 6721 yards. One name that's credited with having a huge impact on St Andrews Links is Old Tom Morris from implementing improved grasses to shaping the famous 1st and 18th greens.
What is the feature hole?
There's no one feature hole on the Old Course, many are iconic. The first and last holes share a fairway spanning 129 yards at its widest point. Despite it's large landing area, nerves play a part when trying to hit it caused by the setting and history. The 18th features the famous Swilcan Bridge as well as The Valley of Sin up by the green. The infamous 17th , 'Road', can be a card-wrecker as seen in many Open Championships. Its features include a tee shot over the old railway shed, the devilishly tricky Road Hole bunker and the road itself that lies beyond the green awaiting any long approach shots. Every hole offers stand out features to enjoy.
What sort of course features can the player expect?
The Old Course has 110 bunkers, long rough and gorse in places, every hole except 1, 9, 17 and 18 have large double greens. Golfers can often be met with testing weather being close to the stunning North Sea.

From Edinburgh: Take the A90 over the Queensferry Crossing which connects to the M90. Continue north until junction 8 and take the A91 following the signs to St Andrews. Journey time is approximately one hour.
From Glasgow: Take the M8 towards Edinburgh, and turn onto the A80 seven miles outside Glasgow. Continue on the M80 over the Clackmannanshire Bridge which leads to the M90 (junction 6). Head north on the M90 until junction 8. Take the A91 and follow signs to St Andrews. Journey time is approximately two hours.
