Overview

Seaton Carew Golf Club is the 10th oldest club in England, founded in 1874. Located on a stretch of windswept land to the north of the River Tees, the course is renowned for its quick draining sandy soil and tightly mown fairways.

What style is the course at Seaton Carew Golf Club?

The 18 holes of the Old Course were designed in 1925 by renowned golf architect, Dr Alister Mackenzie, and they provide a great challenge for golfers of all standards. An additional four holes were added in the mid-1970s by Frank Pennink. to form the Brabazon layout which has been used on two occasions for the Brabazon Trophy.

What is the feature hole?

The aptly named Snag is a 398 yard par-4, where bushes and low-lying dunes force players to the left of the fairway off the tee. However, the ideal line to the narrow, raised, two-tier green is from the right with four bunkers waiting to catch any wayward shots. This is a true card wrecker.

What sort of course features can the player expect?

This is a typical links course where the strength and direction of the wind is a major factor when deciding what club to take. Most holes feature deep, steeply-faced bunkers and fast-running greens and fairways. With the majority of holes running between, rather than over, the dunes, there are few blind shots and the walking is fairly easy.
