Overview

Lucky enough to live in a fantastic location, just one hour from London and half an hour from Cambridge nestled in between the historic towns of Saffron Walden and Thaxted, deep in the heart of the Essex countryside. Your hosts are proud to not be part of a group or chain, just Chrissie and Max's home, where they hope that you will enjoy as your home from home for a few days. From years of travelling, they have sought to make a place that has all the benefits of a luxury hotel but with all those little things addressed which irritates one. There is a gym for you to keep up your fitness regime and the most impressive natural eco swimming pond for doing lengths or just relaxing around, An extensive games room with full size snooker and table tennis tables along with darts and table football or there are luxury board games for more sedate pastimes in their guest lounge for you to enjoy with your favourite tipple. Outside there is a competition size Pêntanque terrain and a Croquet lawn. In readiness for the winter months will be a sauna where one can take a dip into the swimming pond to cool off if that's your thing?

What makes a stay at Piglets Boutique B&B unique?

Piglets is for adults to unwind and pamper themselves. You'll be able to read the latest thriller around the natural swimming pond and won't be disturbed by children bombing into the water, you'll also be able to indulge yourself with a drink from the honour bar which rivals many a pub, with over 50 artisan and small-batch gins on offer and an extensive list of house and fine wines, along with cocktails and beers etc. Many who stay, just come for 'Piglets' alone - dining al fresco on the Mediterranean style patio, one could be anywhere, in fact, some guest have come to stay from just down the road for that very reason!

Piglets is very relaxed and nothing gives your hosts more pleasure than seeing couples chatting away over a glass (or two) and making new friends. They've purposely made plenty of communal places to relax and have fun in, so one is not cooped up in one's (very nice) bedroom all day.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Piglets Boutique B&B?

There are five super king en-suite bedrooms to choose from at Piglets Boutique B&B. Sampford is on the first-floor room overlooking the Mediterranean patio. The bed has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. Ashdon is on the first floor overlooking the natural swimming pond and boasts a private balcony. It has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. Hempstead is on the ground floor with a private entrance and separate French windows opening onto the decking by the swimming pond. It also features a walk-in en-suite shower/wet room. Widdington is on the ground floor with a private entrance and views over the Mediterranean patio with an en-suite walk-in shower/wet room. Radwinter is on the ground floor and has private access, with an en-suite bathroom comprising a power shower and bath. All bedrooms have flat-screen TV and air conditioning.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Wimbish area?

There is so much to see on the doorstep in Saffron Walden and Thaxted, as well as Cambridge, being just half an hour away. You will be close to historical houses like Audley End and Ickworth as well as the Imperial War Museum in Duxford and the lovely surrounding villages of North Essex with the famous Constable landscapes of Suffolk a mere hour away; you will be spoilt for choice. Surrounded by beautiful countryside walks (the village actually boasts the most in rural Essex) and brilliant cycling routes (the Tour de France came through the nearby lanes a couple of years ago), you are welcome to borrow some walking boots from the wellie library or use the bike shed to keep your equipment safe and enjoy the great open air and the famous high Essex skies.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Breakfast is key to the B&B. Most of the produce they use is sourced from local producers including eggs from their own chickens and home-made preserves with a few special items supplied by specialist artisan suppliers further afield. The sharing deli platters are a ‘lifesaver’ for those arriving late or just not wanting to go back out to a pub; they are a delicious grazing meal for two or a hearty dinner for one. There is also a range of small board suppers which one can enjoy tapas style by choosing a few for your evening meal. Not many B&Bs have one of these but Piglets Boutique B&B think it is essential for a relaxing stay and have set up a full bar with a Gin library, choice of house or fine wines, chilled Vodka, cold lagers, beers, soft drinks and even pre-mixed cocktails for you to enjoy. Simply write down what you have consumed and it will be added to your final bill. Your hosts Chrissie and Max can will prepare a picnic for two, complete with a hamper, rug and any drink of your choosing from the bar for you to take on a walk or out in the car for the day.
