Overview

Haughley House is a genuine manor house, with manorial records going back to the 14 century. It is an award-winning B&B located in the centre of Suffolk, making it an easy drive to many county attractions.

What makes a stay at Haughley House unique?

Many guests comment on the attention to detail, such as flowers in the bedrooms. Guests are welcome to relax in the extensive grounds, which include a croquet lawn. Haughley House also offers dinners by prior arrangement. It also has a splendid wine cellar and kitchen garden growing organic vegetables, which was featured in a national gardening magazine. Most of the food comes from the owners' own resources, all freshly cooked on the Aga.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Haughley House?

Haughley House has three guest rooms, one double, one king-sized four poster and one twin with two double beds, all ensuite. The four poster has a silk tented ceiling and the headboard is emblazened with the Bowden coat of arms. The rooms are named after previous infamous Lords of the Manor of Haughley. Each room has tea and coffee facilities, as well as TV, hairdryers, bathrobes, etc.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Stowmarket area?

Haughley House is well located for visiting the magnificent cathedral town of Bury St Edmunds, only 15 minutes away by car. In Stowmarket, there is the Museum of East Anglian Life, covering several acres. This is also Constable country, and the picturesque Lavenham is a joy to explore, not forgetting the beautiful, largely unspoilt Suffolk coast. The hosts will always be pleased to provide information relating to their guests' specific interests.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Breakfast is tailored to guests' needs, and guests could, for example, start with a fruit compote, organic cereals, bacon with a Suffolk cure of beer and treacle. There are tomatoes from the greenhouse when in season, not forgetting eggs from the hens running around outside. Homemade organic bread and preserves are on offer, along with coffee and a wide range of teas. Dinners are a highlight at Haughley House, using the finest possible ingredients, most of which are home-produced or home-reared, such as beef and lamb. It's all served with silver crested cutlery and fine porcelain. Haughley House is licensed to serve alcohol, and wines can be chosen from the cellar. It is a short drive to a wide variety of restaurants and pubs. Haughley has a pub and an Indian restaurant.
