Charlecote Park is a place of surprising treasures. With 900 years of history and acres of parkland to explore, this beautiful property has gardens and parkland which are a haven for wildlife and carefully conserved for future generations.

Where is Charlecote Park located?

Charlecote Park is located just outside of Stratford-upon-Avon, nestled in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside. It sits alongside the village of Charlecote, next door to Hampton Lucy and down the road from Wellesbourne.

What is the history of Charlecote Park to the present day?

The Lucy family have over 900 years of history for you to discover. A Tudor house with Victorian interior, Charlecote is a place of surprising treasures and steeped in family history. The house you see today was completed in 1558 by Thomas Lucy I. Thomas was knighted in 1565 and was honoured by a visit to Charlecote by Queen Elizabeth I in 1572. In the 1800s the house was updated by Mary Elizabeth and George Lucy and reflected the Elizabethan Revival style popular in the Victorian era. William Shakespeare is also rumoured to have been caught poaching nearby on Lucy land!

What is there to see and do at Charlecote Park?

Nestled in the Warwickshire countryside, along the banks of the River Avon, Charlecote is home to over 900 years of Lucy family history. Visitors can spot fallow deer and Jacob sheep roaming in the parkland, or families picnic by the river in the sunshine. Explore the history in the house and outbuildings and delight in the scents from the garden planting. Relax with a cup of tea and a scone from the Wood Yard Café before a quick browse in the shop or plant center.
