What is the history of Bolton Castle to the present day?
Bolton Castle was completed in 1399 by Sir Richard Le Scrope (Chancellor of England to Richard ll), its scars bear testiment to over 600 years of facinating history. Bolton Castle played a significant role, both locally and nationally, many of the most important political and religious events between the 14th and 17th Century, including the involvement in the Pilgrimage of Grace, Mary Queen of Scots imprisonment and Royalist stronghold in the civil War with a six month siege.
The Castle remains in the private ownership of the direct descendants of Sir Richard Le Scrope and is now open as a visitor attraction as well as a licenced wedding venue.
