Overview

From its imposing position on a West Sussex hill, Arundel Castle offers stunning views of the South Downs. Visitors can usually explore the castle, the keep, the Fitzalan Chapel, the walled garden and the 40-acre Collector Earl's Garden.

Where is Arundel Castle located?

Arundel Castle is accessible from the A27, and is close to both Brighton and Portsmouth. Brown tourist signs are in place, and the postcode for sat-nav purposes is BN18 9PA.

What is the history of Arundel Castle to the present day?

With a history that stretches back to the 11th century, Arundel Castle has been the family home of the Dukes of Norfolk for centuries, with many original features still remaining, such as the keep, the gatehouse and the barbican. In the latter part of the 19th century, the house was extensively renovated, and it is considered to be an excellent example of Victorian Gothic style.

What is there to see and do at Arundel Castle?

With artwork by Canaletto, Gainsborough and Van Dyck, Arundel Castle is also full of fascinating artefacts. The lIbrary is held to be one of the best Regency interiors anywhere in the world. Visitors can tour the bedrooms of the castle, and the Victorian bathrooms. The gardens are magnificent, and visitors can explore them all. In Spring, the Castle plays host to the IK's largest Tulip Festival where around 100,000 bulbs are planted every year. The new award winning Water Gardens offers an area of peace and tranquility and is an ongoing conservation project. Throughout the year, there are events and re-enactments taking place.
