Robin's apartment is spacious, luxurious, and extremely well appointed, and he has thought of everything a traveller could need. Both bedrooms were well appointed with large, comfortable beds that were firm but soft and cosy and with a feather duvet that actually rivals the comfort we have on our own bed and that is rarely achieved when away from home. The apartment has an easy to use top of the range washer with products provided, a plumbed and efficient separate dryer plus for us Australians who prefer to hang laundry there is a quality drying rack provided, which in fine weather could be placed outside. The iron and ironing board were of the same quality I would use myself. Cleaning products were provided for those staying longer to keep the environment tidy. The chefs kitchen has everything needed to self cater in style. The wifi was reliable and there are plenty of channels provided with the entertainment to keep everyone happy. The accommodation is in a first class position, for anybody travelling without a car, close to numerous quality dining venues and food retailers on Broughton Street which is a foodie heaven, as well as an easy walk to the centre of Edinburgh for all the sites and shopping. Also easy walking distance for getting to the top of Calton Hill, Salisbury Crags as well as Arthurs Seat. Robin is a brilliant host, who provided a detailed and very useful compendium of information including the sites to see, and where and how to find the best shops and restaurants and walks, as well as information about the accommodation itself such as how everything works and where to empty the bins, things often overlooked in most other venues. He is flexible regarding check-in and check-out if he is able and an excellent communicator. He has provided an absolute gem of an apartment that is tasteful, comfortable and highly functional and first class all the way. We would definitely stay again if we are back in Edinburgh and would highly recommend it to friends and family. Thank you Robin for making our stay here perfect and our only regret is that the apartment was not available for us to extend.

We are 2 couples that stayed at this apartment February 2018. It is spacious, clean, safe, well-equipped, and beautifully decorated. Robin's (owner) attention to detail and design is unsurpassed. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is included. Robin also included a comprehensive booklet with all necessary info on how to operate all appliances, and a guide to restaurants, which were spot-on. It is within walking distance to many fabulous restaurants and small convenience stores. We used Rabbie's Tour Operator for 3 separate day-trips to The Highlands, Whiskey Tour, and St. Andrew's and Fife. Rabbie's is within a 15 minute walk. We also toured Edinburgh's Castle, The Royal Mile, and we took an underground Ghost Walk (ask for Simon if you can). I can't say enough good things about the warm and hospitable folks of Scotland. Do not hesitate to book this wonderful apartment (home)!

We spent 6 amazing days at this house. The owners were welcoming and made sure our stay was comfortable and had everything we needed. You can tell they put a lot of care into this house. It's the perfect location to quickly walk to the great local sites within old and new town. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back next year.

We were able to relax in the beautiful living room each evening and eat breakfast and plan our day in the spacious kitchen. Everything we needed was provided for us, just like a luxury hotel. The neighborhood was quiet, safe and there are many nice restaurants on the next block

We had a most fabulous stay in this Beautiful Old Merchant's House! Not only is the apartment amazing with beautiful and comfortable furnishings, the location is absolutely perfect to explore Edinburgh.

Karin

The apartment was amazing! The central location allowed me to be only minutes away from all the sites and activities of Edinburgh. The accommodations were very stylish and extremely comfortable.

What makes this property so special? Location, comfort, amenities, and layout. Beyond that, such care has been taken to provide the necessities and niceties of feeling at home away from home

Patricia

It was everything we expected and more. So comfortable, it felt like a home. After touring this beautiful city we could come back and relax. Thanks you!

Cathy

Arrival information & directions

Address: 3 Gayfield Square, Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, EdinburghEH1 3NW, United Kingdom

By Plane Edinburgh International Airport has several daily connecting flights from the major London airports (check out cheap deals from BA, BMI and Easyjet), as well as other centres around the UK and Europe. Once at the airport, there are various ways to reach the apartment. Aside from a taxi door to door (cost about £20-£25 and takes about 30 minutes), the easiest alternative is to take the tram. This departs from just outside the airport terminal (turn left once outside and walk past the taxi ranks). Take the tram to the terminus at York Place in the centre of town. The apartment is a 2/3 minute walk from the terminus- keep walking straight ahead, pass the Playhouse Theatre and Gayfield Square is on your left going down the hill. Turn left on to the square and the apartment is 50 metres down on the left. The tram costs £5 single or £8 return and takes 40 minutes. Alternatively you can take the airport bus to Waverley train station (about 30 minutes), then it's a short cab ride or a 7 minute walk. By Train Edinburgh is linked to the rest of the UK by an excellent rail network. You can travel directly from London (www.eastcoast.co.uk), Glasgow, and many other cities and towns. Timetables and other rail information can be found at National Rail (www.nationalrail.co.uk). Once at Waverley train station, exit to Princes St., and follow the directions for how to get to Gayfield Square by car, or see the map below. By Car (or on foot) Find Princes Street on the map. The A1 and A68 terminate at the east end of Princes Street. From the A1 you make a right turn from Waterloo Place on to the A900 (Leith). From the A68 you veer right from South Bridge on to the A900. In both cases, carry on down Leith Street until you reach a roundabout. Carry straight over (the Playhouse Theatre will be on your right) and continue down the street to the next roundabout. Take the first exit heading directly ahead down the hill but turn IMMEDIATELY left (almost on the roundabout) on to Gayfield Square. Number 3 Gayfield Square is about 100 metres down on the left (just past the police station and it's very secure!)
