What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Westwell Hall?

Westwell Hall has 9 Individually designed, spacious bedrooms. 6 Kingsize, 1 Superking or Twin, 1 Double and 1 Single room, most of which have amazing sea views. The Superior rooms are larger and all have sea views. All the rooms are en-suite with either bath with shower over or large shower cubicles. Luxury is key, with crisp Egyptian cotton linen, fluffy towels and bathrobes and Elemis toiletries. What can guests enjoy when staying in the Ilfracombe area?

Ilfracombe's popularity as a seaside resort blossomed in 1874, around when Westwell Hall was built. Recent additions, such as the award winning Landmark Theatre and Damien Hirst's 'Verity' statue have won Ilfracombe International acclaim. An eclectic mix of independent retailers, galleries and restaurants, Ilfracombe still has a working fishing harbour. Access to the SW coastal path is only metres away, with trails along the beautiful rugged coastline. Wildlife cruises leave regularly from the Harbour as well as the ferry to Lundy. There are many fine beaches and 'The Tunnels' in Ilfracombe offer a unique Victorian bathing pool experience. Many gardens, sculpture parks and attractions are within easy vicinity. Also nearby are fishing, riding, clay shooting, cycling, surfing, or simply exploring.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

A delicious breakfast at Westwell Hall is included in the price of the room. All items are free-range or organic and vegetarian and vegan options are always available. Ilfracombe is gaining a reputation as the 'foodie' capital of North Devon and guests will be spoiled for choice. From Michelin Starred fine dining, Bib Gourmand, independent local fabulous food, excellent pub menus and some chain restaurants to fresh crab-off-the-boat sandwiches at the harbour are all represented here. Bonnie will be happy to help with recommendations and reservations for guests.

We stayed on two separate nights around a trip to Lundy island. Bonnie, Betty and Pickles (the jack Russell) gave us a lovely welcome. They have obviously put a lot of thought into the design of Westwell hall, with its quirky and contemporary look it made for a very comfortable stay. The rooms were very nice and our first night was on the 2nd floor with great views over Ilfracombe. Our second night was also in another lovely room. Breakfast was also delicious and the bar lounge area was great to relax in. Also they kindly let us leave our car there for a week while we were on Lundy, as they had spare parking spaces. It is about a 15-20 min walk down hill into town with taxis available. Westwell hall is highly recommended.

“The whole experience at Westwell Hall was a joy from beginning to end. We had a lovely welcome from Bonnie and Betty and Pickles ( lovely friendly little dog). Westwell Hall is quirky but tastfully adorned. it is apparent Bonnie and Betty have gone to great lengths to ensure their accommodation is clean and comfortable for their guests. Breakfast was faultless and flavoursome and beautifully presented. Our room was bright and airy and possessed the best shower I have ever experienced in a hotel. The bed was comfortable also. The coffee /tea making facilities were excellent, highly recommend their coffee in a bag !Nothing was ever too much trouble, and the bar facility was welcomed, the ladies make an excellent G&T !!”

The hotel is in a beautiful victorian mansion with lots of original features mixed with modern works of art and furniture. Bonnie and Betty are wonderful hosts, who are attentive without being intrusive. Breakfasts are amazing with Betty's homemade brown bread being a highlight.

Owners lovely, decor great, breakfast delicious, location perfect and lots of nice little touches like Elemis toiletries and homemade biscuits...would definitely return if in the area! Grounds looked like they would be lovely had the weather been better too!

We don't normally submit reviews - but Bonny, Betty (and Pickle) have made Westwell Hall into a top notch Hotel, which thoroughly deserves recognition. Fabulous rooms, a commanding setting, impeccable service and great breakfasts - we'll be back!
