History

Previously known as The White House, the first record of this village ale house in Dulcote was in 1696, when John West an "inn-holder" of Wells leased the alehouse beside the west mill. In such a tiny community as Dulcote, it is likely that Mr. West served his beer from a room in this house, and that this early-style pub would have been the social hub of the working community.

Both the lease of 1696 and the survey of Dulcote about 1785 lists the White Horse Inn and Garden as the property of the Vicars of Wells. A map dated 1829 plots the White Horse Inn, Court and Garden, in the very spot where the White House sits today, also identifies the land as "leasehold for lives" meaning land leased out to a tenant and his/her heirs over the course of several specified generations.

Food & beverage

Enjoying a leisurely breakfast is an essential ingredient for a stay and breakfast can be served either in the privacy of the suite or, if preferred, in the social environment of the family kitchen, between 8.00am and 9.30am. If the weather is good, there is also the option of an al-fresco breakfast on the patio to enjoy the views in the garden.

A selection of cooked breakfast items can be tailored to meet guests requirements and these are complemented by a range of cereals, fruits and yoghurts. *Please mention any special dietary requirements when booking in the "additional information" section.

With a little notice, the property is happy to prepare a packed lunch. Light suppers are available for late arrivals or nights in. Added extra's such as a bouquet of flowers, or a bottle of champagne or wine can also be organised prior to arrival at an additional cost.

There are many places to eat out in the locality and the owners are more than happy to make recommendations.

Guests are welcome to wander around the grounds and gardens during their stay.
