Reviews

Really enjoyed our one night stay at The Old Vicarage after attending a funeral in Suffolk. Jane was an excellent host and very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. She provided tea on arrival in their large impressive sitting room, grand yet comfortable, overlooking the conservatory and its colourful plants and flowers. Our room was huge with a magnificent view of ancient trees in the garden and beyond. Blissfully quiet. Breakfast was delicious with fruit compote, yoghurts, homemade muesli and tasty bacon and eggs. A great place to stay for a short break. We ate at the Cock Inn, in Great Thurlow - excellent too. Note: House not located near church - as we thought. Follow sat nav and keep driving until you see it on a corner.

We stayed at the Old Vicarage for one night in early October. Jane couldn't have been more welcoming. We were offered tea and excellent advice for eating out. Even better, Jane called a couple of places she recommended (which were fully booked) but persisted and we ended up in the Black Bull Inn in Balsham about 8 miles away. It was good, too, with a limited menu (always a good sign the food is likely to be fresh) but plenty for my veggie wife to choose from. The Old Vicarage is a beautifully-appointed Georgian house. It doesn't offer all the modern 'trimmings' but provides plenty of comfort in simply marvellous surroundings. Stayed October 2016, travelled as a couple

This is a perfect stop for the first night when walking the Stour Valley path from Newmarket. We arrived wet & tired to be greeted with a very welcome pot of tea & home-made cake and shortbread. Jane had previously advised us that the local pub was closed & had offered to cook a meal, & we were definitely the winners here as the food was lovely with many of the vegetables coming from Jane's garden. The rooms were spacious & baths complete with much appreciated radox. Stayed July 2016, travelled as a couple

Jane was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you to make our stay comfortable. Rooms were very clean and the whole house had lots of character. Breakfast was lovely with homemade Marmalade, fresh eggs from their Hens as well. Woke to a beautiful view from our bedroom window. Very enjoyable stay.
