Overview

Hopton House B&B is a stylish 2 room B&B in beautiful countryside, with one dog-friendly room. It enjoys wonderful views over the Shropshire Hills. The rooms are large and very comfortable with superking-sized beds. Breakfasts are extra special, with treats such as eggs benedict and buttermilk pancakes. Guests enjoy country walks and visiting local market towns, including Ludlow.

What makes a stay at Hopton House unique?

Hopton House B&B has been welcoming guests for 14 years. Many of them choose to come back year after year. Every guest is welcomed with a homemade treat of lemon drizzle cake and shortbread. There's fresh milk in the silent fridge, with space to chill your own wine (wine and champagne glasses provided) Dogs are welcomed in the ground floor barn room and have access to the large enclosed garden. Breakfasts are enjoyed at individual tables in the large oak-framed sun room, with views across stunning countryside. If guests choose not to go out in the evening, they can order a ploughman's, cheese, salmon or vegetarian platter to enjoy in their room.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Hopton House?

Hopton House B&B has 2 large double bedrooms. The rooms are across from the main house in a separate annexe, and both have their own private entrance, meaning guests can come and go as they please. The beds are super kingsize ( 6ft wide ) and there is both an armchair and sofa in each room. The ground floor dog-friendly room has a wet room with power shower and a large bath for 2. The upstairs Granary room has a large freestanding bath for 2 and separate shower. Both rooms have smart TV, WiFi, silent fridge, tea and coffee facilities, blu ray player and other amenities.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Craven Arms area?

Hopton House is centrally located for exploring South Shropshire, only 10 miles from Ludlow. Guests can walk 25 minutes to the ruins of Hopton Castle. Despite being very rural, there is a request stop on the wonderful Heart of Wales railway line, just 2 minutes from the B&B. Guests can travel up to Church Stretton and Shrewsbury or down into Wales. There is also a bus service to Ludlow. Leintwardine and Bucknell are just 3 miles away, and the lovely village of Clun is 6 miles. There are many lovely walks in South Shropshire, including the Long Mynd and the Stiperstones. There are several National Trust Properties within a 40 minute drive.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

The closest pubs, all serving good food, The Lion and The Sun at Leintwardine and the Baron at Bucknell - all 3 miles away. Those who don't want to drive can take the train (not on Sundays) down to Bucknell or Knighton (the Red Lion and the Horse and Jockey both have good reputations for food). When ordered in advance, guests can enjoy a ploughman's, cheese, smoked salmon or vegetarian platter in their room. Bring one's own wine - fridge and glasses supplied!

Probably the best B&B my girlfriend and I have ever stayed at. Nestled into the South Shropshire hills, if you're looking for a restful few days with no distractions, traffic or the callings of modern life, this is the place to go. We were fortunate enough to have the Easter weekend sunshine, and with the incredible walking in the area, we had a very restful weekend. Karen is the most incredible host, and you will never get a better B&B breakfast than at Hopton House. There is not too much to add to what other reviewers have already said, but I really can't recommend Hopton House B&B highly enough, a huge thank you to Karen for making our stay memorable, and I am sure we will be returning in the (hopefully near) future.

The barn room far exceeded our expectation. Super spacious and well furnished to high standard. Bathroom, again very large, with good quality fittings and well stocked with toiletries, plus an "extras" box, thoughtfully packed with all sorts of bits and pieces that might have been forgotten. Very comfortable super king bed. Quiet location gave peaceful night. Lots of nice little extras (shortbread, lemon drizzle cake, fresh milk in fridge, good quality tea/coffee, etc.) including every luxury for our four legged friend. Karen is a great hostess and was always available for tips/local knowledge. Breakfast was probably one of the best we have had in a long time. We really enjoyed every second of our stay and would love to return.

Quite simply the best place to stay for a perfect countryside holiday. Stylish, great food and, important for us, dog friendly. There is so much to do: walk in Hopton Woods, Do part of the Long Mynd at Carding Mill Valley, visit Croft Castle grounds for very long or quite short walks, Ludlow has lovely shops and good cafés, Hay on Wye is interesting too. Stock up on local produce at The Ludlow Food Company, eat at The Jolly Frog, Leintwardine.

We really enjoyed our stay recently when attending a local wedding. The hospitality was marvellous, everything about our stay was top class. Excellence in every way, Karen and her husband made us so welcome, the facilities were 5 star. I will highly recommend to all our friends and families

Karen is an very pleasant hostess who makes you feel extremely welcome. There are many little touches in the spacious room that add to the welcome. She is knowledgeable about the environment that proves so useful during your stay. Certainly one of the best b&b's we've stayed in.

This is a wonderful place to stay. The attention to detail with regard to both the beautiful accommodation and the fantastic breakfasts is second to none. The 4 of us are vegans and we were unanimous in our view that these were the best vegan breakfasts we have had.

We have stayed here several times and standards never drop. This is a high quality establishment in a beautiful location; breakfasts are wonderful and the rooms are large and well equipped. Thoroughly recommended.
