Overview

Holbeck's House is a Grade II, listed, Victorian, country house from the 18th century, set in its own gardens and surrounded by parkland. The house has a sense of peace and tranquility and boasts spectacular views over the gardens. There are three double bedrooms and one suite that provides an additional sleeping quarter.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Holbecks Bed & Breakfast?

The flagstone hallway greets you, along with owner Perry who'll introduce you to the rest of the house, which is stacked with plush interiors, Persian rugs, roll-top baths and antique pieces. Bedrooms are spacious and simply furnished with handsome furniture and period finishes (the moorish chocolates are a nice touch).

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Hadleigh area?

The house sits on the hill, just outside the market town of Hadleigh, with acres of gardens, orchard, a croquet lawn, rose walk and a pond. Visit Constable Country and tour Dedham's Munning Art Gallery, Sudbury's Gainsborough House and the Bury St Edmunds Cathedral.

Other Information

The House has four-five bedrooms and can accommodate up to 10 guests at one time. There are also two holiday lets available on request, the Gardener and the Garden Flat.

Staying at Holbecks was far closer in experience to being a house guest at a fine English country pile, than simply being a customer at a B&B. Holbecks is a beautiful Georgian house, which wears its history lightly. We were offered a suite of rooms - bathroom, living room, bedroom - which ran the length of one wing of the house. The rooms were airy, spacious and well appointed in a traditional English manner. The hospitality offered by the owners was impeccable - friendly and solicitous but not intrusive. A full English breakfast was served by the owner off what appeared to be the family silver in the dining room, though if a liveried butler had materialised we would not have been surprised. The grounds of the house, while relatively modest in size, are as attractive as the house. There was an air of intimacy and history about Holbecks that made our stay on a business trip an unexpectedly memorable occasion. However the place is much closer to a (grand) family home than it is to a purely commercial premises and should be booked with this in mind - ironically it's not somewhere that you would want to treat just as a hotel. I imagine that Downton Abbey fans would be in paradise if they discovered Holbecks - it doesn't get more quintessentially English than this!

This is a genuinely quality B and B with large spacious rooms, excellent facilities and a welcoming host with considerable knowledge of the local area. Excellent breakfasts, and afternoon tea with the facility for guests (who are made to feel part of the family) to just relax in the grounds around the croquet lawn. The large period drawing room is available for guests to relax in. Highly recommended. Very welcoming for our 2 dogs too.

This is our 4th stay at this outstanding country house Bed and Breakfast. All the guest rooms are of a high standard. Guests have use of the Drawing Room, may wander in the extensive gardens, play croquet on the lawn, or just relax in the sunny aspect of the grounds. Breakfast as usual was of a high standard. Perry is a very congenial host, with good knowledge of the local area. Highly recommended.

FrankM

Lovely place to stay, romantic but still suitable for kids. Extensive grounds, beautiful surroundings. Friendly hosts. Large rooms and lounge areas. A welcome retreat as very secluded and private, would highly recommend for a break away.

ChrissieO

Hugh accommodation, original historic charm/furniture, pies, everything. River walks, garden all accessible. Local town charming, including super church. Centre of Suffolk, Constable area and coast. Breakfast flexible and fulsome.

FrankF

We stayed in the Constable Suite in this beautiful house set in a delightful location with views over the gardens and countryside. High standard of accommodation, large tastefully decorated rooms. Breakfast and host top notch.

ZoeK

Beautiful and peaceful accommodation and an excellent host. We spent a lovely weekend with Perry and his family. Heartily recommend Holbeck for those looking for an engaging host and peaceful Suffolk countryside.
