Overview
Broadgate occupies a unique position in the Western Lake District with views over the sea and estuary to the South and up to the Fells on the left. Surrounded by a classic Cumbrian country house garden with year round interest. A walled garden enclose wide herbaceous beds.
The house was built for the family and they have occupied it ever since. In 2000 extensive redecoration was undertaken and the bedrooms have been most sympathetically and beautifully decorated. Being an old house the big bathrooms are separate from the bedrooms - stunning baths occupy the centre of these rooms. There is a sitting room with a wood-burning stove for the use of the guests and the breakfast room has floor-to-ceiling, china filled cupboards.
Dinner in the summer is served in the Dining Room with its family portraits on the walls, traditional mahogany furniture
and beautiful swag curtains.
The herdwick sheep in the field round the house and in the winter the fell pony offers a sense of timelessness to the setting and the old farm buildings on the lane bring up images for a Beatrix Potter story.
This peaceful corner of the Lake District is an ideal base for all activities be it walking, climbing, swimming in the sea, sailing on the Lake, riding on the beach, visiting beautiful gardens, eating in traditional pubs, dining in Michelin starred restaurants or just enjoying the quiet and tranquillity of the garden and nearby fells.
Reviews
Though Diana's home is a bit away from a village centre (car definitely recommended), staying in her home was truly a pleasure. From the minute we arrived, Diana was the most hospitable, warm and friendly host I have stayed with, offering us coffee and tea or something to eat whenever she could. We did not feel out of place once and upon visiting, it will be blatantly obvious why she only has 5-star ratings. And the home and gardens are beautiful to boot!
When you read this Diana, thank you so much! We will be sending many people your way!

I think that it's unusual to write review where the owner it integral to the review. Broadgate Hse is a lovely place to stay, however Diana seemed to effortlessly go the extra mile to ensure that our stay was a really positive experience. Our reason for going to the lakes was for a family meet up and as such, the accommodation should have been secondary, but the house, the location, the food and the views were much more than that. A really wonderful stay.

Really lovely all round experience. Afternoon tea of cucumber sandwiches, honey sandwiches and moist ginger bread in garden on arrival with Di. Lady Lewthwaite's story was accidentally revealed over the weekend. Most interesting was the fairy tale story of her ownership of the famous horse Supreme Rock. It is a magnificent idiosyncratic Georgian house full of antique furniture and amazing views over the estuary.
