Completely cocooned in comfort!

After a 9 hour car journey we received the warmest of welcomes from Damien. Nothing was too much trouble for him and we had a truly wonderful two day stay. Our room was superbly comfortable. We returned from visiting the costume exhibition at Chatsworth the 2nd day to find homemade lemon drizzle cake waiting for us - just one of the many thoughtful touches. AND there is a guest sitting room. Fab choice of restaurants within walking distance. Will definitely recommend and hopefully return! Outstanding breakfasts!

Wonderful - again

When we arrived it was like coming home on Bank Holiday Monday. We were greeted and taken to our room which I had requested again after last year. We had our tea and heavenly lemon drizzle in the sitting room and the relaxation commenced.
The breakfast is truly marvellous and hot, as it is cooked fresh to order. The room is quiet and has everything you would expect and more, with the milk in the fridge and an iron and board in your wardrobe. Damien and Adrian genuinely do think of everything.
The weather was very good, not too hot for the walks we did, which are quite strenuous at times.
Matlock has lots of variety of shops and restaurants. One evening we went to Maazi Indian restaurant which is absolutely excellent and authentic. We would definitely recommend going there if you appreciate a decent curry.
We love coming here and will hopefully return again.

Excellent chill out stay

We had previously stayed at Knowles House with the whole family and had a superb time, thanks to Damien and Adrien who were most helpful.
This year we returned to stay four nights at their B&B.
We had a warm welcome and after being shown to our spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable four poster bedroom were soon served coffee and delicious lemon cake.
This must be one of the best B&B's in the country.
There is so much to do in the Peak District that many returns are required.
Damien and Adrien's wonderful breakfast is something to look forward to each morning and it sets you up for the day.
We had a very relaxing stay and look forward to returning again and again.

An absolute delight every time. I believe this was our fourth or possibly fifth time at Glendon and it never fails to delight us each visit. The building is beautifully maintained and it's hosts are to be celebrated for their warm greeting and extensive hospitality. It is always spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly require. The car parking is very convenient at the entrance to the property and is a bonus that quite a number of bed and breakfast's don't offer. The outside seating area is perfect to relax on a sunny day with a good book whilst the other half enjoys the cricket just across the road! An enjoyable walk through the beautiful park on the doorstep leads to a number of bars, restaurants and shops. Within a short distance there are some wonderful attractions, our favourite being Haddon Hall. Damien and Adrian cannot do enough to make your stay a relaxing and enjoyable one, thank you for looking after us both so well. Both you and your staff should be proud of the excellent service and homely feel you manage to provide so well. Special thanks this visit to Adrian for my plant cutting - that was so kind of you, just hoping I can keep it alive! For anyone looking to stay in Matlock you will not find better, we can assure you of that

Perfect Place

We loved our visit to Glendon. Lemon cake and a cuppa on arrival was very welcome after a long day of travel. Damian & Adrian are great hosts. Breakfast was delicious each morning and the central location made it easy to walk into the village and to the Red Lion for dinner at night. Another recommendation from friends that was spot on.

“The perfect getaway!”

I have just returned from 2 nights at Glendon House and it truly was fantastic. I was on a weekend away with a friend and we both were looking for someone else to look after us... Damian and Adrian at Glendon House did this brilliantly. We were greeted with tea and cake in the lounge which on a dark Friday night was exactly what we wanted...
The room was spotless with everything there that you need including a large shower and very comfortable beds. I travel a fair amount but can honestly say that the breakfasts were some of the best I have had... these combined with Damien's tips on where to visit and how to get there ensured we had a fantastic weekend.
I am already planning on when I can get back there next!

“Like a 5 star boutique hotel”

We were warmly welcomed by the host ,Adrian with a pot of tea and delicious homemade lemon drizzle cake ! Our 'family room' was perfect, tastefully decorated, very clean and comfortable. We were so impressed with the guesthouse we asked if we could stay another night but they were fully booked for the rest of the week , not surprising really for accomodation of this quality.

“Simply lovely”

Had a family commitment to fulfill and found this on the net. Nicely placed with a park behind and the cricket ground in front this is a wonderfully appointed house. On arrival we were offered a tray of tea and coffe which came with 2 generous slices of delicious lemon cake. The room was as described with spacious facilities including a large walk in shower. Breakfast offers choices and we both opted for "the English" which was magnificent in scale and quality!

“Excellent guest house”

Our first visit to Derbyshire and we spent some time researching accommodation, luckily we got it right choosing Glendon. The rooms are beautifully decorated, our bedroom was comfortable with a large very new looking shower, spotlessly clean. We were welcomed with coffee and delicious date and walnut cake which must have been homemade. Breakfasts served on tables with crisp white linen tablecloths with choices of fruit juices, fruit, cereals, home made compotes, full English breakfast with multiple choices and the nicest sausages I've ever tasted. We came by train, a short easy walk away through local park and used local buses to visit Bakewell and Buxton letting someone else do the driving whilst we enjoyed the views. Would definitely stay here again if we return to the area

“Fabulous Bed and breakfast - Highly recommended”

I stayed here for one night to watch a football match and from my arrival to departure, felt that nothing was too much trouble for Adrian. I was given an incredibly friendly welcome and the whole hotel was impeccably clean and stylishly furnished and decorated. My room was large and comfortable and fabulous value for money. Location wise, it's 2 minutes from the centre of Matlock and probably 7 minutes walk to the station if you cut across the park. My breakfast was fantastic - freshly cooked and high quality food. I have stayed in and around Matlock several times because i often work there and this would definitely be the my first choice place to stay.

“Last minute booking”

We were booked elsewhere for 3 nights but after the first night we did not want to return and was not happy with the accommodation or staff. So we used trip advisor to find this charming guest house and it was perfect. The room was very comfortable and we would say 5 star quality also the breakfast was excellent. Staff also very friendly. We walked a short distance to parks, gardens and more than enough things to do . Also shops, bars and restaurants very close. We are recommending this venue to all our customers as we own a post office/newsagents in Charlesworth and we had lovely break.

“So glad we stayed at this B&B”

Warm welcome, friendly helpful hosts and staff, comfortable and well appointed, beautifully decorated, very clean, attention to detail was outstanding, sitting room was a wonderful retreat, fantastic location with park on the doorstep, breakfast was first class - which sums up the Glendon. Wished I had been able to stay longer! So glad the B&B we had originally considered was booked out. Thank you Adrian.

Where do you start with somewhere like Glendon. From the moment we walked through the door to the moment we left everything was perfect. Adrian greeted our arrival with an offer of tea and cake. Nothing was too much trouble. The little touches in the room, silent mini fridge, chocolates wine drinking from the tooth mug here ....Oh and fresh milk. Everywhere is spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and feels like a home from home. The breakfast set us up for the day, wish I could cook poached eggs like that. Thank you to Yvonne for her smile in the morning and for her memory for what we liked. We will be back and hope it wont be too long before we visit again. Thank you

“Top Notch!”

My partner and I had booked this lovely little guest house for a long weekend break in the Peak District. After shopping around online, we finally came to the conclusion that the Glendon Guest house offered the best bang for buck as well as an excellent location for our weekend plans.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by one of the two owners of the guest house. He showed us to our room and offered us hot drinks. The room was extremely clean and above hotel chain standards. We were both very impressed.

Breakfast was delicious with a surprisingly large variety of dishes to choose from for a small guest house.

The staff members were extremely helpful when we had questions in regards to the local area and things to do. If we decide to the Peak District again, we will definitely stay here again.

Just had a lovely night here. The house is beautifully decorated, the room was very comfortable and the breakfast looked great (curse this wretched diet). It's a couple of minutes' walk across the park to the local restaurants, and the view down on to the river is beautiful. Will definitely stay here again.

“Very relaxing stay”

An excellent stay and highly recommended. The owners enthusiasm and attention to detail shines through. Our party had 3 rooms, all were faultless and exceeded expectation. A very comfortable and very relaxing stay. The hosts generosity continues into the breakfast room, with quality ingredients and superb choice. The blueberry pancakes and fresh fruits were fabulous. A great location - we didn't use the car for 3 days. Hope to return. Thank you!

“Wonderful guest house”

From arriving at Glendon you are made very much at home, with a most welcome coffee in the sitting room. Attention to detail makes it just perfect and the breakfast is amazing! This was a business trip, but will definitely be returning for pleasure. Nothing is too much trouble, I mentioned my gluten free diet at the last minute and was well catered for....excellent!

Just returned from a great weekend break at Glendon House. From the moment we arrived we knew this was going to be a lovely place to stay. After being shown to our room we were served tea and cake in the sitting room. We staying in the four poster room which was beautiful and with everything you could ask for - loved opening the fridge to not only find nice fresh milk and bottled water but also a selection of chocolate !!!!! Another great touch we found was that after leaving the room the following day for a stroll around Matlock - we returned to find champagne glasses on the side - our hosts had seen our bottle of prosecco in the fridge and duly brought these in addition to the wine glasses already there- its these little touches that make your stay more special. The breakfast are excellent and offer a great choice of cereal, fruit and various cooked dishes. The smoked salmon and scambled eggs were delicious. Also great that I was able to have gluten free bread.

We would both highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Matlock and the surrounding area both for its beautiful rooms, delicious breakfasts and caring and attentive hosts. We will be back again.

Just wanted to drop you a note to say that we had a lovely time. It was really helpful to receive all of the information we needed prior to our stay, thank you. Thank you too for making sure we had a first floor room. We have told lots of our friends how welcoming you are, the standard of your rooms and the excellent breakfast. We tend not to return to places but we have decided that we will make an exception for Glendon.

Just got home from a 2 night stay in the family room with 2 small kids. Can't recommend highly enough! The family room was great as the kids room is through an adjoining door. Was a lovely touch to find lots of lovely books and toys in the family room too! The decor of the room and in fact the whole of the guest house is stunning and everywhere was immaculately clean. Lots of complimentary fresh milk in the silent fridge in the room was a very welcome touch too.
The location of the guest house is absolutely perfect, being a pleasant short walk to all the delights of Matlock. Ideally situated for a holiday exploring the Peak District.
The breakfasts we had were fantastic and every effort was made to accommodate food for the kids too. In fact nothing was too much trouble! Adrian & Damien go out of their way to help and answer any questions and they do so with such genuine enthusiasm.
Thank you so much! We all really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning!!

Myself and my mother stayed here for 3 nights and had the most wonderful time. The room was immaculate with fresh white duvets and luxurious curtains. Great onsite with a superb, spacious shower. The sitting room was beautifully decorated and it was a joy to sit in here when we first arrived with welcoming tea and delicious lemon cake.

The breakfast was served each morning from 8-9am in an elegant dining room. The food was high quality and wonderfully presented. Damien was very friendly and made us very welcome. He was polite and helpful and advised us on walks around the area as well as recommending nearby restaurants.

Glendon is extremely well situated. We arrived by train and walked 5 minutes through the beautiful Hall Leys Park with Glendon Guest House being literally right next to this park.   The park would be great for children as there is a playground, splash pool with fountains, a boating lake (£3.50 for 7 minutes for 2 adults and 1 child), miniature railway, putting green, cafe and beautiful flowers.

We did some wonderful walks, the first being from Hall Leys Park, through woods and by cliffs overlooking Matlock and the river, to Matlock Bath for Abraham Heights (cable car). The second walk we did was along the Monsal trail from Bakewell (we got a bus from Matlock station), again a lovely walk.

We would highly recommend both Glendon Guest House and Matlock.

What a find! Glendon Guest House is an outstanding place to stay. From the moment we were greeted at the front door we were made to feel at home. Cups of tea in the sitting room as we arrived (and what a stunning room it is!) - an easy walk into town to explore. Very convenient parking. Lots of local knowledge and in the morning a SUPERB breakfast (the best we've had). We'll be back. Matlock is a very sensible place to base yourself if you are exploring the Peak District - everything is within easy reach. We stayed in the Four Poster Room and especially enjoyed hearing the chimes of the local church on the hill.

Fancied a night away somewhere relatively close to home and decided on Matlock. So pleased we chose Glendon Guest house for our stay. The customer service, from first booking to leaving, was spot-on. Our room was beautiful - cosy, stylish, spotlessly clean, well-equipped, with a fantastic shower and a huge, comfortable bed. Breakfast was one of the best we have ever had (my husband said that it even beat his 'full english' and that takes some doing!). We are fussy about ingredient quality but could not fault it - beautifully cooked and served so well in a beautiful room. Just wish we had been staying another night as they serve a good range of different breakfast choices.

If we come to Matlock again we will stay there again, what better recommendation is there? Lovely hosts, friendly attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Comfortable rooms, very nicely furnished and a real home from home. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. The location of the B and B is fabulous too and we could easily walk the few steps into the centre to the restaurants and bars. All in all a lovely weekend
