The Award winning Old Lock-Up was built in 1842 and the Chapel in 1812 and is situated on the edge of the Anglo Saxon town of Wirksworth with glorious views to the rear. It offers historically unique luxury accommodation in a Magistrate´s House, Coach House and Gothic Chapel. All are furnished to a very high standard with antique beds and many extras provided. It has excellent cuisine using local produce; homemade bread and guests can relax in the double spa bath and afterwards in the Victorian lounge featuring an open fire.
What makes a stay at The Old Lockup unique?
Built in 1842, The Old Lockup served first as a magistrate's house and then as a police station for 100 years. The Magistrates Room would have housed a man charged with upholding the law before the police moved from London to Shire County in the 1850s. The Solicitors' Room was set aside so that the lawyer could talk to his client in private. The Coach-house, where once the Inspector stabled his horses.
