The Hill on the Wall B&B is a listed 16th century fortified farmhouse or ´bastle´ with has a fascinating history and panoramic views over Hadrian´s Wall and the beautiful Irthing Valley. The 5 Star luxury accommodation has 3 bedrooms - one double en-suite, one twin en-suite ground floor and one twin private bathroom. Once you have stayed at The Hill and experienced the warm welcome, delicious food and greatest of comfort in the spacious rooms, you will want to return time and again. Ideally placed to visit the famous cities of Newcastle and Carlisle, and the Lake District, are a day trip away.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at The Hill on the Wall?

The 5 Star luxury accommodation has 3 bedrooms - Caligula's Chamber and Hadrian's Retreat, both King-size Double Rooms with en-suite bathrooms. These spacious rooms are on the first floor at the front of the house overlooking Irthing Valley and Hadrian's Wall. Flavian's Folly, a ground floor, twin bedroom, off the Long Room at the rear of the house and has a view over the rear courtyard. Room Facilities include; flat-screen televisions, free Wifi, sumptuous duck/goose feather duvets, cafetierres with fresh ground coffee, a selection of tea, bath robes and slippers, hairdryers and use of iron and ironing board.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Gilsland area?

The local area is full of history and unspoiled landscapes. Hill on the Wall is the perfect base to explore the famous Roman wall marking the northern border of the former Roman Empire, the Hadrian Wall. The B&B is only a short walk to the wall itself and only 0.25 miles from the Roman Fort of Birdoswald, one of the best-preserved forts on the wall. The Eden Valley is also just a few minutes drive away also with superb fishing and quiet, easy walks by the river.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

If guests wish to venture into the local town, in the area of Gisland there are numerous restaurants that are well worth a visit. There's also a great pub, the Samson Inn, and a great tearoom, the House of Meg Tea Rooms. Stackhouse Organic Farm Cafe, just 1/2 miles from us, is also highly recommended.
