The line was later connected to the famous Somerset & Dorset Railway, established in 1869 by the Midland Railway as a passageway connecting Birmingham and the South Coast. Closed under the Beeching Axe of the 1960s, an active team of volunteers restored the Avon Valley Railway. Today, 40 years on, 3 miles of track have been re-laid, locomotives and carriages have been restored and the sound of steam can once again be heard along the Avon Valley.
Details on what activities are available at Avon Valley Railway?
