The Victoria is all about the food, but the rooms just happen to be rather lovely too. The chef has a Michelin star pedigree so expect some rather delicious menus to peruse as you sit in the cosy bar before dinner (and if you’re with kids, there’s a leafy garden and play area to keep them happy while you’re at it). This gastro pub is in leafy Sheen, just around the corner from Richmond Park (all 2,500 acres of it) and it’s a lovely 30 minute stroll across it to get to upmarket Richmond where boutiques and interesting cafes and bars jostle for space along the high street. Upstairs in the bedrooms, the design is ultra modern and luxurious, with décor in grape, marine blue or browns and golds. Ipod docking stations, flat screens and Egyptian cotton bedding come as standard.

The Victoria is part of the following Editors' Picks:

Ten Places to Stay for Animal Lovers by Kate Simon

"The WWT London Wetland Centre, in Barnes, is a haven for wildlife (www.wwt.org.uk). Duck into a hide to spot birds from around the world, then spy on the resident otter family. Stay local at this charming pub with rooms, which offers a leafy garden and kids’ play area – they’ll gladly put rollaway beds and cots in their stylish, modern bedrooms."
