England's oldest inn. Amazingly the site of the Royalist Hotel dates back to 947AD and was built by a Cornish Saxon Duke named Aethelmar, as a refuge on the Fosse Way. An intimate and luxurious hotel, there are fourteen bedrooms, some in the main hotel, some in adjoining premises; all are individually furnished and are suprisingly modern, fresh and funky. Awarded 2 AA rosettes for dining, the hotel's 947AD Restaurant serves delicious modern contemporary food in a cozy setting with two ancient wood burning fires.
