The Malt House nestles in the kind of countryside that has Americans in raptures - all gently rolling hills, grazing sheep and green-ness. Fresh flowers in the bedrooms, jams and compotes from fruit grown in the garden for breakfast, and a summer house made for sipping a G and T while casting an eye over the action on the croquet lawn, all add up to a vision of perfect Englishness. The seven bedrooms have been decorated individually with impeccable taste by super-helpful owner Judi Wilkes, whose attention to detail (hot water bottles, hairdryers, umbrellas, torches and more, all hidden away in every room) is legendary. A great range of local restaurants means there’s plenty of choice for dinner, although its hard to leave the Molton Brown bubble bath, DVDs, hot water bottles and glossy mags.
