The Crown and Castle is quietly positioned (by the C12th keep) in the lovely coastal village of Orford, on the Suffolk coast. The hotel is co-owned by t.v. presenter Ruth Watson, David Watson and Tim Sunderland. The 19 bedrooms are divided between the garden and the main hotel. All the bedrooms are airy and bright, and all but three have zipped and linked 6-foot beds. Most of the en-suite bathrooms have been refurbished in the last two years. Good food is a core ingredient of the Crown and Castle, with much time and energy devoted to sourcing wonderful local produce, and creating menus which offer interesting but not stupidly elaborate food. Last but not least, service is thoughtful and considerate, without being over-attentive.

The Crown and Castle is part of the following Editors' Picks:
Ten of the Best East Anglian Retreats by Jessica Baldwin
"The quintessentially English town of Orford is situated on Suffolk’s beautiful heritage coast. Located on the banks of the River Ore, this ornate village dates back to the twelfth century and is a mecca for hikers, bikers and bird lovers. I love The Crown and Castle, the stylish retreat boasts nineteen light and airy bedrooms, each with an upmarket country feel and most with generous 6-foot beds and en-suites. They even accept a limited number of canine friends so you can ring in advance and pack your pooch. The restaurant serves up creative dishes using the finest locally sourced ingredients."
