The prosperous and attractive village of Hathersage is situated in the Derwent Valley. During the 19th century the main industries were needle, button and wire drawing. These mills are still standing but have been put to other uses. The 13th century church of St Michael's sits high up in the village and boasts extensive views of the Derwent Valley.
