Mathern's the Welsh Gate House is a historic building dating back to the thirteenth century, that is Grade II* listed and has won awards for the skilled restoration that is evident both its outward and inward appearance. As a self-catering accommodation the Gate House is unique, having castle-like qualities and many of its ancient features intact, such as stone mullion windows and a spiral staircase, now installed with a wood-burning stove and a fully-fitted kitchen, together with Freeview television and a DVD player. There is much to enjoy nearby, including a golf course a garden centre, while Monmouthshire is known for its natural splendour.
