The Well Diggers is situated in an idyllic countryside location near Petworth. Ted Whitcomb has been the landlord and guiding influence of this popular destination for the last 50 years or so. Low beams and an inglenook fire set the tone of the cosy interior. The absence of music and machines confirms the traditional ambience. The food served here has a faithful and ever increasing following. This is home to hearty English fare such as Oysters, Poacher’s Pot, roast Pheasant, and braised Oxtail. The establishment is a free house with beers including Wells and Youngs. There is an extensive wine list, which includes champagnes and a dessert wine, with house wines by the glass.
