Offering an extensive wine and sake list and serving, some say, the best Japanese food in London Umu is a meal to remember. It starts with the concealed entrance in Mayfair, where you need to place your hand over a sensor to activate a sliding door which reveals the low lit dining room within. Umu offers Kyoto-style banqueting where head chef Yoshinori Ishii creates numerous well-balanced small dishes, including plenty of raw fish, which are ceremoniously brought to the table over the course of an hour or two. The environment is serene and the decor, service, presentation and delicate flavours of fine, fresh ingredients are designed to combine and provide an experience that appeals to all your senses as well as feeding your soul.
