The Tollgate Inn

Housed in a charming 16th century local stone building, the interior of this gastropub is warm and welcoming with polished wooden floorboards, comfortable sofas and a wood-burning stove. There are two dining rooms as well as an outside terrace for summer al fresco dining. Chef proprietor, Alexander Venables, serves a daily changing menu that is inspired by local ingredients including meat from local farms and fish from Brixham in Devon. The cuisine is uncomplicated modern British with the emphasis on quality ingredients in well executed dishes such as pan fried scallops in Parma ham with summer leaves and lemon dressing, or rack of local lamb with a miniature shepherd’s pie. There is an eclectic wine list with choices from the New and Old Worlds.
