The Seahorse

Overlooking the River Dart estuary The Seahorse offers uncomplicated Italian inspired seafood in slick bistro style surroundings. Congenial staff direct guests to sit on mustard leather banquettes where they can inhale the enticing aromas from the charcoal grill that waft into the restaurant from the open kitchen. To start there is bagna cauda (seasonal vegetables with a warm garlic and anchovy sauce) or scallops from Lyme Bay roasted in the shell with garlic and white port. Main course fish can be simply grilled over a charcoal fire with herbs and garlic or cooked “al cartoccio” (in paper) with rosemary, chilli and garlic. Like the menu there is a bias towards Italy on the wine list but wines by the glass change on a daily basis.
