The Marquis is a luxurious, restaurant with a homely vibe and a great British menu which keeps food miles to a minimum. It is set in a designated Area of Outstanding National Beauty, in the unspoilt village of Alkham, surrounding by rolling hills. Despite its rural location, The Marquis is chic with sumptuous fabrics and fine furnishings blending with light airy space and original brick work. The food is just as well styled – and the freshly caught fish and locally reared meat is put together in an artistic and imaginative fashion. The menu pays homage to seasonal local produce with dishes like braised Romney Marsh goose faggot served with creamed curly kale, sauce poivrade and confit shallots and house speciality Marquis bouillabaisse with saffron potato and provencal vegetables.
