The Marquis is a luxurious, restaurant with a homely vibe and a great British menu which keeps food miles to a minimum. It is set in a designated Area of Outstanding National Beauty, in the unspoilt village of Alkham, surrounding by rolling hills. Despite its rural location, The Marquis is chic with sumptuous fabrics and fine furnishings blending with light airy space and original brick work. The food is just as well styled – and the freshly caught fish and locally reared meat is put together in an artistic and imaginative fashion. The menu pays homage to seasonal local produce with dishes like braised Romney Marsh goose faggot served with creamed curly kale, sauce poivrade and confit shallots and house speciality Marquis bouillabaisse with saffron potato and provencal vegetables.

The Marquis at Alkham is part of the following Editors' Picks:
"Set in the tranquil and idyllic Alkham Valley, the Marquis is a modern boutique hotel that offers sumptuous surroundings and stunning scenery. In the restaurant, head chef Charles Lakin is serving up exquisite, stylish food that’s hard to resist (Nasturtium pannacotta with pickled girolles and cheddar sable is a typical starter). If you can tear yourself away from the elegance of it all, the famous White Cliffs can be explored through one of the many breathtaking cliff-top walks."
"Sample everything from a locally made Pinot Blanc to a Musar from the Lebanon at this contemporary restaurant with rooms. There’s fine Burgundy and Bordeaux too on the concise, intelligently chosen list that offers something for every palette to enhance chef Charlie Lakin’s technically brilliant yet comforting dishes including the signature crisp pig's head and trotter with cauliflower piccalilli and fried quails eggs."
