Situated in beautiful, ivy clad 17th century building overlooking the village green, The Kings Head has plenty to recommend it even before you open a menu. The traditional dining room features oak beams and open fireplace and offers a taste of olde England, but chef Jonathan O'Keeffe’s menus are a much more modern affair. Carpaccio of yellow fin tuna with tomato tartare and herb salad and sautéed Scottish scallops with braised gem lettuce, and crispy pork belly and Granny Smith vinaigrette are light, contemporary ways to start your meal here. Main courses offer fine ingredients and careful, technical cooking – think breast of pheasant wrapped in pancetta and sage, with braised thigh, spatzle, and pheasant jus. Enjoy roast beef from the Buccleuch estate with Yorkshire pudding for Sunday lunch.
