In the gentile honey-stoned surroundings of the Cotswolds, this impressive pub and hotel has earned a notable reputation for its quality food as much as its elegant countrified ambience. Chef/proprietor Emily Watkins (formerly sous chef at The Fat Duck) is known to change the menu mid-service to accommodate regular deliveries from local foragers, fruit farms, small holdings and game estates. Her skill and innovation starts with bar snacks such as scotched quail’s eggs and hand raised pork pie. It is even more evident in the restaurant with a short but tempting menu containing the likes of Cotswold salami, crisp Barrington Park bantam egg, heritage potatoes and mushy peas. Alongside rich, classic puddings appears an impressive catalogue of local cheeses and homemade ice creams.
