The George Hotel

The George Hotel looks like a typical country inn. The comfortable and traditional interior belies the fact that this is home to a very accomplished restaurant with rooms. Chef proprietor, Boyd McIntosh, believes that cooking should involve the finest ingredients to produce uncomplicated dishes of great flavour, without the addition of decorative devices. This classic approach serves to create a fine guinea fowl rillettes with quince chutney starter or a subtly spiced parsnip and sweet potato soup with garlic croutons. The main courses are equally impressive featuring simple dishes with a clever twist, such as caramelized breast of Gressingham duck with sautéed wild mushrooms and Earl Grey jus. There is a well-chosen wine list.
