An ancient converted dower house, on a wooded hill top in the Welsh countryside, houses this is a popular traditional pub, skittles and all that incorporates an award winning restaurant. The kitchen sources top quality local ingredients to produce an eclectic menu. Bacon, laverbread and cockles together with y-fenni rarebit illustrate the link to traditional Welsh dishes, but chef proprietors Andrew and Sarah Canning showcase their skills with the more exotic dishes such as crab rissoles with coriander and chilli sauce, Caribbean fruit curry with crayfish or loin of wild boar with apple and Calvados. Desserts are simple, featuring the likes of syllabub and treacle pudding, and there are local cheeses. A large and varied wine list provides a good range from most of the well known regions.

| Local Directions: | We can be found on the B4598, locally known as the old Abergavenny to Raglan road. If heading from the A449 which runs between Newport and Monmouth take the A40 exit, signposted Abergavenny. This will take you past Raglan Castle to a roundabout. Take the third exit signposted Clytha. Follow this road for approximately 3 miles and we are on the right hand side. If heading from Abergavenny the B4598 can be joined from the roundabout south of the town where the A465, A40 and A4042 join. Travel for approximately 6 miles and we are on the left as you come up out of a cutting. |
