The bright Conservatory restaurant in this former 18th-century coaching house affords fantastic views across the Leven estuary to the Lancashire and Cumbrian fells. The Bay Horse prides itself on serving excellent homemade food including the bread served at the beginning of the meal and the chocolate truffles at the end. From the a la carte menu guests can sample classic British dishes ranging from fresh local brown shrimps served warm in a lemon parsley butter with pancetta and avocado to start and following on with pan fried calves liver with grilled smoked bacon and caramelised shallots. In addition to the a la carte menu there is a grill menu offering steaks and a separate vegetarian menu including dishes like hazelnut pancakes filled with fresh wild mushrooms.

Local Directions: From the North and South, leave the M6 at junction 36 and take the A590 signposted to Barrow-in-Furness. On entering ULVERSTON take the left hand turn, signed to CANAL FOOT and continue to the end of this road. Take the next signed left hand turn following the lane until you reach the Bay Horse.
