Situated alongside the canal in North Oxford, Jamie and Charlotte King’s award-winning gastro pub remains true to its roots as a local watering hole. The menu features seasonal, organic, and ethically-sourced food. A special of home-smoked trout using locally caught fish, served with Indian-style spicy potatoes and spinach gives a flavour of the chef’s style. Traditional pub greats such as steak and kidney pudding and treacle tart with ginger cream are given blackboard space alongside specially selected 'cheeses of the week' and an abundance of game in winter, much of it sourced from local farms and producers. The restaurant and bar have a reassuring, traditional air with an old wooden bar, Farrow and Ball wall colourings, roaring fires and reclaimed pew benches.
