Sutherland House offers good food in comfortable, contemporary surroundings and is passionate about locally sourced, fresh food. Food miles are published against each item on the menu so pan fried mackerel with samphire, spinach and balsamic racks up 14 food miles, while the chef’s signature rack of English lamb, butternut squash puree, crushed new potatoes and local vegetables has travelled just 4 miles to the plate with the veg sourced from the hotel’s allotment up the road. Sutherland House is located on the high street of Southwold and is just a short stroll through the delightful walled garden to the sea. The Grade II listed building has some spectacular architectural treats including ornate plastered ceilings and a recovered ship’s mast used as a crossbeam running the width of the low-ceiling.
