In the centre of the market town of Ramsbottom there is a jewel hidden inside a Victorian gate house with leaded windows. The exterior may scream English country cottage but inside you will find some of the finest southern Indian food in Britain served in a contemporary monochrome dining room. The menu reveals plenty to please vegetarians and carnivores alike. Perhaps begin with a cashew and spinach pakora or king prawns in green chilli and ginger masala. Tender chicken cooked with Chettinad spices or aubergine tossed with tomatoes and herbs could come next. For pudding you could indulge in a traditional Indian dessert such as halwa where the sweet carrots have been slowly cooked with milk, saffron, cardamom and cashew nuts.
