Orwells at Shiplake

Upcoming chef Ryan Simpson recently opened Orwells in an 18th-century Oxfordshire country pub. Inspired by its beautiful kitchen garden and views across the rolling countryside, he serves food from ‘fisherman, farmers and foragers’. The menus throughout Orwells reflect Simpson's passion for rural sourcing. There are two dining rooms, the first in the bar area has a relaxed feel with stripped floors, chunky wooden tables and original beams. Here they serve upmarket pub grub such as rabbit rissoles or muntjac and hazelnut burger. The second is ‘The Room’ housed in a rather lovely conservatory extension, where Ryan’s award winning signature dishes such as pan-seared Rougié foie gras, liquorice lentils, brioche and rhubarb compote are showcased. A comprehensive wine list is complemented with a range of local beers at the bar.
