La Garrigue is known for its French country cuisine with a focus on regional specialities from the Languedoc region of France, where chef Jean Michel hails. And while the food reflects the fact that this is an up market French restaurant, the atmosphere is more like a bistro - relaxed and friendly. The restaurant is light and airy and enjoys views across Carlton Hill while the original Tim Stead signature chunky wooden tables and chairs add to the overall ambiance. The menu is seasonal and depending on the time of year may include dishes like French roast rabbit with black pudding, cabbage and juniper berry sauce. Jean Michel sources many ingredients from the Languedoc region including the wines, which means there are some good finds at reasonable prices.
