Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant group landed in Reading early in 2010, much to the delight of locals and visitors alike. Situated in the strikingly modern former Oracle building on the riverside, the restaurant offers fresh, relaxed, rustic Italian food given the ‘pukka’ treatment from the cheeky chef. Antipasti includes Tuscan fennel salami, pistachio mortadella, San Daniele prosciutto and Schiacciata piccante, while fresh pasta takes in everything from scallop and squid ink angel hair, to wild truffle tagliatelle. Sustainably sourced fish of the day from Devon and Cornwall comes baked in a bag and sides include polenta chips and raddichio salad. Inside the restaurant, an imposing ‘bubble’ chandelier draws the eye, while friendly and exceptionally-trained staff run the front of house like a well-oiled machine.
