Greens is a modern London institution. Now in its third decade of serving familiar, comforting dishes like Cumberland bangers and mash with onion sauce and beer battered fish and chips with minted mushy peas, the restaurant will appeal to those who like a generous serving of discreet luxury with their meal. For a traditional treat, settle back into your red upholstered booth, drink in the London gentleman’s club-style atmosphere and tuck into half a dozen native oysters followed by a grilled Dover sole. The more moderately adventurous might prefer Yorkshire feta and artichoke heart salad Monkfish wrapped in bacon with spicy carrot purée. There’s plenty of fine claret on the extensive wine list if your budget will run to it, if not French regional selections start at around £20. You can choose to enjoy the delights of Green’s in private – in the St. James’s Private Dining Room that seats up to 36 guests or 40 for a standing reception. The room can be divided to create two smaller, intimate private dining rooms.
