Large picture windows frame a view overlooking Farlam Hall’s garden and ornamental lake allowing light to spill into the formal dining room. With its white marble fireplace and elegant wallpaper, the restaurant reflects the elegance of the Victorian era from which the hotel dates. Updated daily, the concise modern British menu maximises the freshest, local ingredients available. Grilled Mediterranean style vegetables with shavings of Parmesan cheese and a spicy pepper dressing could begin a meal followed by breast of local grouse, with herb stuffing, crisp West Cumbrian pancetta and a game sauce. A cheese course is served before dessert which could run to a rich dark chocolate tart with chocolate sauce or lemon, honey and pistachio mousse with a fruit coulis.
