The Heatherwick that houses the East Beach Cafe is a stunningly modern building. But once you've admired the architecture, make sure you head inside to enjoy Jane Wood and her daughter, Sophie's hospitality. Breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner are served 7 days a week throughout the year. The restaurant has pale wood chairs around small tables with a view of the sea and the beach through floor to ceiling windows. Cod, haddock and plaice are off the menu; instead, expect sustainable alternatives in the form of grilled mackerel fillet, rhubarb herb crumble and spring greens. Classics such as potted shrimps, and fish pie compete with holiday favourites such as crab linguine or salt and pepper squid with chillies. A good wine list offers many by the glass.
