The Clanfield Tavern pulls off the tricky juxtaposition of being an historic country pub and smart, modern dining room with aplomb. Opt for traditional fare in the low-slung, 17th century inn or press on to the adjoining conservatory where the style is notably more contemporary with stocky teak furniture and a striking wine wall. There are keen nods towards provenance throughout the menus - all fish is sourced from sustainable stocks and local producers feature prominently. A ‘what’s coming from the garden’ board explains which produce has been gathered from the pub’s own heritage vegetable and herb garden that day. A simple but smart menu comes with suggested ale pairings and includes the likes of green tomato soup with homemade bread and Gloucester old spot pork, rabbit and Hoegaarden pie.
