Open since 1976 and named after a Bollywood hit of that decade, the unpretentious yet stylish Bobby's is one of the best places in the UK to savour authentic Gujarati cuisine. Vegetarian it may be, but even the most dedicated carnivore won't care that there's no meat in the signature dishes of dhokla (a savoury cake with coriander, sesame and mustard seeds) and patra (rolled and steamed malange leaves with spiced chick peas. The extensive menu of traditional and modern dishes is served in generous portions and comes with warm, welcoming service. A visit to the ground floor counter filled with brightly coloured Indian pastries and sweetmeats before you leave is a must.
